I believe you can only achieve this through amending the TOC styles.
Wow, those styles really turn up everywhere, don't they?

In my table of contents, currently -about- 5 1/2 inches wide, sometimes
has a title that pushes the page number down to the next line.
I seem to have two choices:
1. Manually reset the table of contents font to size 9, or,
2. Manually "pull" the right side rightwards by 1 1/4 inches.
I prefer the second option. Whenever I do a "Update Field" >> "Update
Table" it goes back to the original setting. Is it possible to tell Word
I want the right-side edge moved rightwards by 1 1/4 inches and it
sticks to that?
