Ess....the mail has to arrive inside Outlook before the rule can be
applied since it's Outlook that is applying the rule. Outlook can't
apply the rule to a message it hasn't yet received.

Subject: [mso] Rules for Rules (Outlook97)
I downloaded the Rules Wizard (available after downloading the
two Outlook
97 patches from MS). I set up some rules that move my incoming mail to
folders. My question involves Rules terminology.
When building a Rule, it says "Apply this Rule after the message
arrives..." Is there some alternate setup? Apply the Rule BEFORE the
message arrives? As I watch the mail come in (lots of it; takes several
minutes), I see each message (the Preview) arrive briefly in the Inbox,
then disappear. They all get deposited into the proper folders, but why
can't they go directly there? Seems like it would speed up the mail
collection process if they could skip the step of first going to the
Inbox.
Is there a way to make a Rule apply BEFORE or JUST AS the message
arrives?
Is this handled differently in more recent versions of Outlook?
