Debbie,
The process includes changing the file extension but you can not just rename 
the file.
I am assuming that when you say "presentation" that you mean a file with the 
extension .PPS and when you say "slideshow" you mean a file with the extension 
.PPT.
If that is the case then just open your powerpoint program, then open the 
Presentation .PPS, it will open as if it was a .PPT then you can add what  you 
like and save it again as a .PPS.
