Well...you DON'T have to close the application! You can just click on the file again or click open again...or use Alt + Tab to flip over to your files and click it again. If you don't provide the password, the file won't open. So yes, you DO need to make another attempt to open the file. But there's no need to close the app just go to the file and try to open again.
