[mso] Outlook categories shifting?

Through Outlook 2000 and 2002, Pocket PC 2000 and 2002 and various versions
of Activesync, I have noticed that my Outlook contacts occasionally get
their categories changed.
I just noticed this when a few people fell out of my holiday cards category!
In looking closer, it appears that the categories assigned to a contact are
actually shifting down to the next category and/or losing the category all
together (category: none).
Any idea what may be causing this?
