Linda, The reading pane is *very* safe (as was the preview pane in OL2002). There is inbuilt protection against scripting problems... Just to check - you are using the Technical Refresh of beta 2 for OL aren't you? There were LOTS of bug squashed in that release... If you go to Help > About the version number should be 11.5329.5329 (or very close). And don't worry about it being a beta. It's been extraordinarily stable (esp. the this last version), and I've been using it full time since last October with no data loss.
