Linda and Anthony-

My father grew up in St. Albans, Vermont and I used to spend my summers at
Camp Randolph in Highgate Springs where we had inherited a house near the
Missisquoi Bay. Our house was only 4 miles from the Canadian border. Too
rural for me - I love the burbs.

Wow Anthony....I didn't know you lived in Vermont. I lived there for 18
years myself. I was in southern Vermont, in a town called Rupert (which
is near Manchester)....I also lived in Rutland for about 5 years and
owned a boarding kennel there.

I miss Vermont. I don't like living in the burbs...which is where I am
now :-(

Basically a .MDE file is an executable database file. The users cannot
view,
code or design view, or change anything.

In many situations a database is split and the datafile is placed on a
shared drive. The users are given a copy of the forms, report and
queries in
a .MDE file. The .MDE is linked to the data file on the shared drive.
The
users can now work with the data, but not modify any objects.

When you create a .MDE the application becomes an executable file and
complied, but you still need MS Access installed to run it. the .MDE
file
needs to function perfectly, and contain error trapping just like a
regular
executable file would.

In code you can allow/deny users any view or menu options you want them
to
work with.

My drive to work this morning was through a few fresh inches of snow.
The
Vermonters know how to handle the stuff but the flatlanders well......

Now I'm more confused than ever...LOL

Are you saying that an mde won't allow users to get into design view?
Will it also keep them from getting into some of the menu stuff? For
example....I know in a form, you can go to the Records menu and choose
Data Entry so you only see the one form you are working on and I always
figured there had to be a way to keep users from turning this off...is
THIS what an mde is used for?

And, well, I lived in Vermont for 18 years, so this snow we are having
today is nothing (about 10 inches)....but in Pennsylvania when we get
more than 3 inches, everything shuts down LOL (and these people have NO
clue how to drive in this stuff, so I stay off the roads!!)

MDE is a "replica" of the original MDB.

One of the things it does is... it locks the user OUT of your =
programming stuff. They can't get in and redesign forms for example. =
It's real good for you users who only "think" they know what they're =
doing.

Hey Linda.
I haven't seen snow for 22 years. Enjoy yourself.

It snowed here back in "23". (not that I am that old). I see pictures of
=
it in our Town Hall. A huge 2 inches!! Unfortunately it was all gone by
=
10 AM after the sun came up a little.
