Don, It sounds as if you have saved the document as a Template (.dot) instead of as a Document (.doc). You may have hit the down arrow on the File Type box and selected (.dot) by mistake. Try resaving the file with the same name in the same place, making sure that the File Type says '.doc'. Don Miller wrote: I am new to the group, so I hope I don't sound too stupid. I am running Office 97. Microsoft Word has just started doing something I haven't been able to fix. I can create a document and then do a "save as" and close it and everything is fine. However when I go to open the document, although the file name is displaying what I named it, the system will open the document as "Document1", not what I named it. If I make changes to the document, it will prompt me to name the document again, and I will have to call it something other than what I originally named it. Each time I open the document it will do the "Document1" routine all over again, which requires me to constantly rename the document. I have reloaded Office 97 and that did not fix the problem. Any suggestions?
