[mso] MS Excel Calculations

Hi All,
Can anyone explain to me why some times Excel (2003) will sometimes just
decide that it's not going to do actual calculations, but will instead
show you the formula instead of the result, even though in
tools--->options---> you have not clicked on the option to show
formulas?
