Thanks for your response. The ssn is formatted as 'text' in Excel. The
problem is that Access is still importing the values as a number and
deleting the leading 0's.

I did, in the meantime, get a suggestion that seems to work. Use, Data,
Text to Columns and format ssn as text. For whatever reason that works
better than using Format, Cells, Text.

Suzanne,

Since you should not be doing calculations on the ssn you should import it
as Text and your leading zeroes will stay and display. Anytime you are
dealing with a number that calculations will not be performed on (such as
ssn or zip) they should be stored as text to maintain their integrity.

I'm importing data from an Excel spreadsheet to an Access database. One of
the fields is Social Security number. I need help with formatting the
social security # in Excel so Access will see leading 0's. I've tried
formatting the ss# as text and also starting the ss# with an apostrophe but
still Access doesn't see the leading 0. Any help would be appreciated. Thank
you. Suzanne DiMarco 327-7517 Desktop Solutions
