Sorry about the first reply...I'm on my laptop and always hit the wrong
keys...

Anyway, pivot tables let you "pivot" stuff....move data to from rows to
columns, etc. .... And allow you to change the display of stuff in different
arrays. Like if you had a bunch of stores with total sales for a bunch of
different products for a bunch of different years, you could quickly "pivot"
the display to show how many stores sold a certain product in a certain
year, or how many products were sold by each store in each year, or how many
years did a particular store sell a product, or what was the total sales for
each year for each product....and on and on and on. When you put stuff in a
pivot table, the possibilities are endless.

I'm sure if you search google for pivot table you will find lots of
different free tutorials, then all you need to do is play around with the
wizard until you get the feel for it.

I'm a big fan of pivot tables.

Subject: [mso] Excel - pivot tables

I have used Excel to create templates for others to use. There are several
sheets involved and values from one sheet feed into other sheets
automatically. The sheets have many formulas including several layers of
If, Countif, Vlookup, etc.

I was learning while creating some of these and when I have to make edits, I
have to be very careful to make changes in all of the right places. Someone
asked me if I had considered using a pivot table for this work.

I don't know anything about pivot tables and when it is appropriate to use
them. Does anyone have a quick description or is there an article that you
could recommend to help me decide if that is what I should be using?

Thank you,
Jenny
