Hi Jens,
From the mail it is understood that the rate which is arrived from the cell
at the bottom has also the formulae of the rate field. Hence Excel gives an
Circular reference error. Remove the formulae which is indicating the rate
from the bottom of the cell and try . It should work. else please send
across the worksheet with sample date to analyse.

Okay, here goes the problem:
I have created a cost spreadsheet, the problem I have is that one of the
cells contains a calculation which is x * a rate.
That is easy enough except the rate is based on a calculation using the
BOTTOM line and as this calculation forms part of what is above the bottom
line - hey presto ! - I have a circular reference.
Any good ideas of getting around this problem.
