April, Yes, this is one of the reasons to split the database. There are a couple ways to try to recover. One, you can sometimes have the person who was in it, open it from the same computer they were on and then close it again. (This will ocassionally delete the ldb file enabling others to use it.) Another option is to open a new db, click on file, get external data and try to import everything from your original database. (This is something I always recommend you do after you complete your development. There are some things that even compact and repair don't get rid of that just take up space.) The only problem you should encounter with the new db that has everything imported is that you will need to have it named differently than the original since the ldb file is still out there. One other thing you can try and it will ocassionally work, try to copy the database and rename it in Windows Explorer. The ldb file doesn't follow the copy and it should let you get to your data. It says that somebody else has it opened exclusively and nobody else has it opened at all.... It is saved on a server that crashed on day while somebody had the DB opened... they fixed the server problem, but can no longer get into this DB..... In excel I could copy and paste all the info into a new spreadsheet and make it read/write able.... How can I recover this DB to a read/write able status.... James, is this why you say to split the DB??
