OK Mark  It is written in stone!!!!!!!!  I WILL be there!!  Ken, I cannot
believe anyone would do less than 2 miles in a race like that. 4 miles is bad
enough!!!!!  Even with a marginaly good excuse. Steve O

Mark,

First we have ACROSS THE YEARS!  Sent my entry in today (48 hour version - I
entered the last 2 days).  I am being rather optimistic I guess but I need
motivation to come back.

I am upset that I purposely did 4 miles at the FANS race (the mini lap and one
full lap) with the intention of finishing LAST on the list which will drive me
next year.  There were 2 runners (one I knew) who did the mini first lap and
bagged it at 1.6 miles.  I couldn't finish last even when I tried to!

Unofficial results from the FANS race.

Deb was a star with 45.75 miles!

Brother Jeff logged 42.

But hey - isn't this race all about ME?  I logged 4.08 miles.  Walking of
course.  I also walked 3.5 hours as a night patrol judge but that doesn't
count.  I am not a lightweight you know!  In fact at the weigh-in I was 201.5
pounds (20 over my race weight so I asked them to create a Clydesdale
division!  I could be a contender!  Hopefully back in training Wednesday before
all of my pants are too tight...

If you can't open the Excel Spreadsheet, i may be able to open, copy and
paste.

Mark Hellentha's friends did well.  One of them had back problems (David James)
after leading much of the day in a very hotly contested men's 24 hour (at about
75 miles, there were 6 runners within one lap of each other (2.4 miles per
lap).  Joe Fejes, winner of the 72 hour Across the Years race, ran terrific
finishing 2nd and he was fighting a little stomach issue off an on.  First
woman (local and minimal experience) was a machine at 128 miles.

PS.  Anyone wanting to congratulate deb should send it to sistervz@xxxxxxxxx as
she is not on the big mail list.

Subj: Pending Results

Good evening!  I hope you managed to get home without incident (if Marathon
Stupid is scary, Ultramarathon Stupid is positively dangerous!) and that you're
managing to tend your wounds successfully.  Ease up, be good to yourself, and
keep repeating The Goal is to Become an Old Runner.  And you can define 'old'
any way you want.

I wanted to get the preliminary results into your hands as quickly as possible.
We'll be continuing our comparison of the direct entry and lap counting
systems until we're convinced we've eradicated any errors that might have
wormed their way into the numbers, and then the official results will be posted
and sent off to UltraRunning etc etc etc.  If you see something here that just
doesn't make sense please bring it to our attention and we'll get out the
fine-tooth comb and set to work.  Once we're convinced our work is done, we'll
order results tiles and ship those off to you sometime in July, most likely.
Some things you just don't want to rush.

Congratulations again to you all for putting yourselves to the test and giving
it everything you had.  We couldn't have bought better weather, and this one
will live in memory as the way all races should be.

We'd also like to thank everyone who went the extra distance to garner pledges
to support the FANS scholarship fund.  We have 14 young people graduating from
high school this year, and we know your efforts will translate into changed
lives.

Til next time, take care, coddle yourself, and bask in the glow!
Pat S.=
