*Remembering a true Lion Leader that exemplified our motto “We Serve”*
Lion PDG Orval Heywood passed away on January 27, 2017 at the age of 96
years.
Orval joined the Maryville Host Lions in March of 1962. He served as
District Governor of District 26-F in 1987-88.
He later served as Club Secretary for many years for the Maryville Host
Lions Club.
He was awarded the club’s Lion of the Year in 1995-96.
Orval was a long time member of the Missouri Lions Eye Research Foundation
Board of Directors and received the designation of Honorary Board Member.
Over the year he illustrated a gallant effort by collecting over $22,000 in
his “Penny Jug” for MLERF.
In 2010 he received the International President’s Leadership Medal. That
year the club’s Annual Golf Tournament changed the name to the Maryville
Host Annual Orval Heywood Golf Tournament.
Most recently Orval made a $60,000 contribution to the Watson 9 Youth Golf
Course for a large practice area including practice green and sand bunkers.
A true Lion will sadly be missed!
