[modeleng] Sealing a Smokebox

I wondered if anyone had any suggestions as to suitable mastic/gunge/sealant
to use to seal the crevices at the bottom of the built-up smokebox of my
Elidir. I guess I am talking about gaps of up to 1/64" wide?
I had a look in Halfords at good old Gun-Gum and the "own-brand" equivalent
but both require heating to exhaust operating temperature before and after
application - Possible, but not too convenient too do.
