the problem is compatability with directx 9
it can be one of 2 things

make sure your running directx 9 and all the drivers are up todate
(this was a major fault with directx 9.0c ) but is fixed with the latest 
updates

alternatively the video hardware driver is not compatable on the laptop
some of the newer games needs 3d graphics with 256Mb graphics ram
which is not the same as ram on the pc , this is specific to the video 
controller

two options
( buy a new laptop ! which may have the same problem ,  or delete the 
ame  )
i know what i'd do , laptop's are notorious for graphics problems
