All I can say is wow. I am liking this... Thanks for the info. Oh, can you ask about the cutting off of notes when transposing, and the ribbon controller thing as well? New Major XS OS Update in June With apologies for the previous false alarm regarding an OS release, this announcement comes directly from Athan Billias, Director of Marketing for Yamaha North America. The most important new feature, in my opinion, for blind XS users is supportfor a USB keyboard. This is full support. You can type in patch and file names (so no more hopeless confusion when using SF6 for entering file names). There is numeric data entry support for all numeric fields, so you can type in volume levels, patch numbers, etc.The function keys will work as function/subfunction keys. All transport andother XS functions are duplicated on the USB keyboard. Besides making things a bit easier (typing numbers on a numeric keypad), this should open a few new doors. When you save samples or all files, you can now actually provide meaningfulnames for your files. Some screens that require lots of data entry, such as those that make it possible for you to connect to an Internet file server may now be usable. There is chatter on the forums that many parameters might provideaccelerator keys. So, for example, on a mixing mode screen, you could pressalt+p to move the cursor to pan, alt+v for volume, etc. The possibilities will materialize to a greater degree once we have clear documentation for the keyboard support. And, yes, the Motif XS works with unpowered USB hubs, so you can attach a keyboard and flashdisk at the same time. Following is the announcement from Mr. Billias. ----------We have just confimed in Japan the features for the new OS for the Motif XSwhich is scheduled for release at the end of June. Perhaps the most important new feature is the XS will not cut off sounds when switching channels in Mix mode. So that allows either 16 Voices on 16 MIDI channels or 4 Performances on 4 MIDI channels to be switched without sounds cutting off. BTW, this is 8 more voices than is possible in Live Mode on the Fantom G. Another frequent request here on the forums was the ability to have 10 key numeric input and another request was to be able to use a USB keyboard or mouse for editing. We have also confirmed that the new OS will allow you to connect a USB ASCIcomputer keyboard for editing parameters, calling up different pages and naming in Song/ Pattern , Sampling and Mix modes. We checked it out and it is pretty cool to be able to use the USB keyboard cursor to move around the screen , then type in values using the numeric keypad. Almost every key on the ASCI keyboard has been assigned. For example the function keys F1-F12 are mapped to function and subfunction keys on the XS so you can call up any page on the XS remotely. Tranport keys are also mapped to the ASCI keyboard so you can basically edit everything in a Songor Pattern without touching the XS itself. In reality, this is a lot quicker than using a USB mouse for editing which was the other option we looked at.A final consistent request here was for the XS to remember it's passwordwhen connected to an ethernet network. This has also been implemented in thenew OS.There are other new features in the new OS , but the three biggest featuresare : 1) No cutoff of sound in Mix Mode 2) Use of a USB keyboard for editing/ 10 key numeric input and naming 3) Memorization of the XS password on the network BTW, we also confirmed that a VST3 editor with Media Bay compatiblity is planned for release in the future timed to a newer version of Cubase that allows that further integration. That editor will also new features like a mode for editing drum kits.Having seen the new OS and gotten a chance to play with it , we think peoplewill be pretty excited once they get their hands on it. There are a few other things that we are working before the release so please be patient until the end of June. Thanks for all the input, we think it helped to set the priorities and therewill be other OS updates in the future, but we think this one is pretty significant.
