I think Marion is on target — no way there would be THAT many female PUMA
together in mid-Feb., nor have I ever seen PUMA swirling the way they are
described here. Starlings are another possibility.

Last Thursday on the Pascagoula River I had a birding experience I'd not had
before. Hearing birds I looked up to see more birds than I had ever seen before
at one time. The sky to the west was filled with, not hundreds, but thousands
of birds swirling like smoke from a vast forest fire, then moving with near
simultaneity the way a shoal of fish changes direction. (Aside: a physicist
once publish a paper on how fish do this titled "Fish Are Fermions".)
Inspection with binoculars showed that the birds were all, in so far as I could
tell, purple martins. Indeed, they were all female purple martins.
Are any of you familiar with this phenomenon?
