Dear Missbirders,
I heard several Tree Swallows vocalizing at White's Slough in Columbus
(northern MS) yesterday afternoon. One was flying fairly close to the road and
the power lines, so I ducked down and waited and was lucky enough to have it
land on the line pretty close to me. It sat there long enough for me to snap a
couple of good pictures, and then took off again. They only stayed audible for
about 15 minutes and I never heard/saw them again after that, so it appears
they were just passing through. It's pretty early to be seeing Tree Swallows, I
thought. I just figured I'd share, because it seems unusual to be seeing them
this early, but it appears that we are having an early spring this year in the
south (perhaps skipping winter altogether)!
Anyway, the pictures are attached. If anyone else has any input, feel free to
share.
