Hello Joe, Ed Lopez here. I have a preamp from sound professionals that will work with the unit. It has a level control for the mic input, as well as a switch that will attenueate the sound 10 DB or 20 DB for certain situations for recording. This uses a 9 vote battery, to power the preamp, and it has a power switch to turn it on, or off. Being that the unit has one jack, you would have to do some test recordings, and do some experimenting with the level control, andd the switch. You can get this preamp by calling sound professionals at 800-213-3021, or you can go to their web site at http//www.soundprofessionals.com. They also make a preamp with a stereo built in mic on the unit. It is called the pre SP2. Hope that helps. If you have any more questions, or you are not sure about this preamp, you can call me at 708-484-1755, or you can leave a message on my cell phone, or call my cell at 708-912-0565.
