Fellow swimmers,
As many of you know, our contract with the Mercerwood Shore Club ends on June
30. The good news is we have successfully negotiated a contract extension
with the club that will enable us to continue our masters swim program there.
We do have good news to report: (1) We successfully negotiated an extension
of the current contract through the end of August, so we will have two more
months under the current arrangement. (2) The new contract begins September
1, and it is a 3 year contract, so we will have fee stability for the next
three years, and possibly beyond. (3) The first two items were possible
because our group has a very good working relationship with MSC.
OK, here’s the not so good news: Our pool rental fees will be going up by ;
44% starting September 1. There are many reasons for this, but the biggest
is that few new pools are getting constructed in King County, yet demand for
pool time is ever increasing. This puts a lot of upward pressure on pool
rental fees. The rates at MSC are no exception.
Because of the good shape our finances are in, we won’t have to increase fees
by the full 44% in order to keep us swimming, though we all will be paying
rather more than we have been. Here’s the plan:
Starting immediately with tomorrow morning’s swim, the drop-in fee will
increase from $9 to $12. The cost of a ten swim pass will increase from $85
to $110. All existing ten swim passes will be honored.
Starting on Friday, July 1, monthly and quarterly fees will go up a little
bit:
MSC non-members: $275 / quarter, $100 / month
MSC members: $135 / quarter, $50 / month
Starting with the 4th quarter payment on Monday, October 3, the rest of the
pool increase fee will hit us, and the rates for the 4th quarter will be:
MSC non-members: $325 / quarter, $120 / month
MSC members: $160 / quarter, $60 / month
Barring something unforeseen, we should be able to maintain the new rates
without further increases for three years thanks to the new contract.
I look forward to seeing all of you in the pool soon!
Tom
