*Job Posting*
*Position*: Wildlife Conservation Researcher
*Duration*: 12 months
*Goal of project*: Evaluate human-wildlife conflict, dependency on natural
resources, and perceptions of wildlife conservation around the newly
established Kodaikanal Wildlife Sanctuary, Tamil Nadu, South India.
*Responsibilities*: The researcher is expected:
1. Conduct questionnaire survey of people (500-600 households) living
around the newly established Kodaikanal Wildlife Sanctuary to determine the
level and reasons for human-wildlife conflict and dependencies, and the
perceptions these people have of wildlife conservation.
2. Analyze data and:
a. Write a report on survey results for Forest Department and general
public.
b. Prepare a manuscript for submission to a peer-reviewed scientific
journal.
3. Maintain a blog throughout the 12-month duration with 1-2 blog posts
a week.
*Profile of researcher*: Ability to work independently with minimum
supervision, passion for wildlife conservation, interest in human-wildlife
conflict, and an interest to write a blog and publish a scientific article.
Preference will be give to those with the ability to converse in Tamil.
Ability to analyze data in R would be a bonus, but not a requirement.
*Salary*: Rs.27,000/month + Rs.5,000/month (transport and internet/phone
expenses). Highly subsidized accommodation available in Kodaikanal during
project period.
