Green Industry: Pathways Towards the Industry of the Future (23 June - 4 July, 2014) Course Directors: Jacek Cukrowski: UNIDO Institute for Capacity Development, United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Vienna, Austria Laszlo Pinter: Department of Environmental Sciences and Policy, Central European University, Budapest, Hungary Trends in resource use and energy consumption indicate that current forms of industrial production are not sustainable in the long term. Many industrial production systems continue to be inefficient and wasteful and thereby threaten to overwhelm the assimilative capacity of our planet. In order to reverse these developments, industries need to radically improve their energy efficiency, reduce their resource consumption and curb the release of harmful by-products. The greening of industries and enterprises provides stability and resilience to economic development and improves job and income security, energy reliability and human wellbeing. The third international Summer Course “Green Industry: Pathways Towards the Industry of the Future” organized together with the Central European University in Budapest reflects UNIDO’s genuine commitment to seeking innovative solutions and building new capacities in industrial development. Target group: * PhD students focused on technical and/or policy aspects of green industry. (Undergraduates without a university degree will not be considered.) * Emerging, second-in-line young leaders in the public or private sector responsible for managing policy or operations related to Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECP). * Members of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), involved in environmental advocacy and staff from industry, support institutions responsible for giving advice/counsel to Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs) on RECP methodologies, environmental management systems (EMS), low carbon measures, eco-design, etc. Please note that no present or former UNIDO staff, consultants or interns and no alumni of other UNIDO Institute trainings are eligible to apply. http://www.summer.ceu.hu/green-2014 The application deadline is February 14, 2014.
