Dear All, Free Software Foundation Tamil Nadu conducted a one day workshop in Bharathi Women's College, Broadway, Chennai on 15th Feburary. The workshop was attended by 103 participants from Computer Science Department. The attendees comprissed of both B.sc and PG students attended it. K. Sibi, Executive Committee member, FSFTN, took a 2-hour session on Philosophy of Free Software. This session covered topics like: What is free software?, how free software is different from proprietary software? etc. Philosophy of free software session was followed up with a 3 hour session on Python, taken by Prasanna Venkatesh, Core Committee member of FSFTN. Then session was a combination of theory and hand on. Various basic topics were also covered as part of the session like Evolution of Computers, What is a programming languages are, the need to learn Python, and followed by Basics of Phython (with Hands on). The students tried the programs in their laptops and doubts were cleared by Prasanna and Nappinnai simultaneously. The workshop was recieved well by the students, and the students were encouraged to ask questions by presenting them a book on Python. The students and staff of the college expressed that they experienced something new by being a part of this workshop.
