{margin-bottom:0in;}#yiv8568405862 Dear Pat and friends, Rachel Manley,
program Director of iEARN-USA will be in Israel to give a workshop to Israeli
English teachers and other educators about iEARN. The title of the workshop
is:Virtual Exchange Projects for Global Collaboration. Here is the workshop
outline: Participants will explore global project-based learning that engages
students in collaborative work exploring real-world problems while experiencing
cross-cultural connections and friendships through online, virtual exchange. The
workshop will engage participants in strategies and lesson ideas for global
projects that connect youth through conducting shared research, participating
in community service learning, and sharing related information and ideas with
their peers in other countries. Participants will review a variety of global
project examples facilitated by teachers around the world, including geography,
art, science, math, and civic engagement projects. Learning Objectives: ●
Explore how virtual exchange can expand cultural understanding and
opportunities for all young people to have meaningful international
experiences. ● Share practical tips and best practices for planning and
implementing virtual exchange projects that develop 21st century skills and
global competency ● Analyze examples of online projects for international
collaboration that engage youth to explore local and global concepts of
citizenship After the workshop Rachel will be able to give individual
consultations and/or give a separate workshop on the BRIDGE, an EL program
designed specifically for Arabic speaking English teachers We do hope your
teachers and coordinators will be able to participate the workshop can take
place on February 16th in the afternoon at an hour that would be most suitable
for teachers, probably at 5:30. Looking forward to hearing from you,
--Jackie Background on iEARN iEARN is a non-profit organization made up of
over 30,000 schools and youth organizations in more than 140 countries. iEARN
empowers teachers and young people to work together online using the Internet
and other new communications technologies. Over 2,000,000 students each day are
engaged in collaborative project work worldwide. Since 1988, iEARN has
pioneered on-line school linkages to enable students to engage in meaningful
educational projects with peers in their countries and around the world. iEARN
is:
- a safe and structured environment in which young people can communicate
- an opportunity to apply knowledge in service-learning projects
- a community of educators and learners making a difference as part of the
educational process
How can I participate? There are over 100 projects in iEARN, all designed and
facilitated by teachers and students to fit their curriculum and classroom
needs and schedules. To join, participants select an online project and look at
how they can integrate it into their classroom. With the project selected
teachers and students enter online forum spaces to meet one another and get
involved in ongoing projects with classrooms around the world who are working
on the same project. In addition to connecting students' learning with local
issues and meeting specific curriculum needs, every project proposed by
teachers and students in iEARN has to answer the question, "How will this
project improve the quality of life on the planet?" This vision and purpose is
the glue that holds iEARN together, enabling participants to become global
citizens who make a difference by collaborating with their peers around the
world. Jackie Stein
