I just order on line and have them shipped. the guides/references and the lists and a relationship by phone with a list member will cost you less in the long run.

I agree with David on the start up list of things but I fish with a rod so one at a time is fine by me <laugh>.

Somewhat more seriously though, I recommend going to an Apple store to buy your Macintosh. Typically, these stores have one or more people who know a bit about VoiceOver and, in somewhat more rare cases, actually have a person with a really solid grasp of the VO and other universal access utilities.

At your Apple store, you can establish a relationship with one of the people working there and, because they are local, you can call them at the store or visit them with any serious problems or questions that you cannot find an answer to in the places to which David points.

Here in Cambridge, they have a VO expert who provides private VO training at your own pace for an hour or so per week. This hands on, direct from Apple training works best if you have a laptop because once you pass the basic training you will want the trainer to be prepared to teach you about specific applications that you will find important and only skim over things you couldn't care less about (for now at least).

Finally, I have found Apple personnel in their stores to be absolutely terrific and I've shopped in the stores in Cambridge, Tampa, Boston, Short Hills, NJ and South Beach Miami.

In every one of the stores, I received outstanding service from a very patient member of the staff.

If you are real confident in your ability to learn quickly and if you are looking for a pretty rockin' high end Macintosh, I would ignore the advice above and go to newegg.com where you can save quite a few bucks.

Happy Hacking,
cdh

all;

When you are trying to decide or for whatever reason have decided to buy a mac, There are a few things you will want to do which will most likely answer all your questions and even some you didn't know your have. These things should be your constant companions in addition to a growing list of resources you will have at your fingertips once your new kitten arrives and you make a home for him/ her.

and many more have resources including demos, tutorials and guides for your learning and reference pleasure.

Two things that are a must have are the voiceover getting started guide which is much more than a getting started guide and the user guide for your mac.

The list is nice for answering questions but the above can teach you how to feed fish to your self for mac life while we can only feed you one fish at a time.
