I’m so very glad this was useless. It still works this way in Watch OS 9.1.
Glad to contribute!

Hi Mark,
Getting to this a bit late, but thanks so much for the tip for getting Taptic
time to work reliably on the Apple Watch. It was always hit or miss for me as
to whether or not it would work, and, more times than not, it would give. Me
Taptic feedback when I didn't want it, and wouldn't give it to me when I did
want it. Now, with your tip, I can get it to work 100% of the time.
Thanks again,
Russell

I finallly got Taptic time to work for me. For those who may be experiencing
the same thing, what works for me is to tap the watch face once, then after
about half a second, tap it twice again. This reliably produces the Taptic
time vibes. I do not know why this is, perhaps something’s whacky with my
wake-up settings, or maybe it’s particular to the Apple Watch SE, but a tap
followed by a delay followed by a double tap which is slightly slower than
an activation tap does the trick.
Hope that helps someone.
