Hi,
Are you using POP3 or IMAP to grab messages from the GMail site? Both are 
supported BTW.
Anyways, I think but I might be wrong, but you can go into your account 
settings while logged in and tell it not only to let you download messages 
using your E-Mail client using either of these two methods but to also let you 
download every message you have sent and recieved using that account. It's been 
a couple years since I did that with my account, but it worked great.
