Is this what is meant by software instruments? In the CBT podcast the host
talked about not having a keyboard to plug in, so he demoed using the computer
keys.
Fear not if you don’t have a keyboard to plug in, you can record an actual
instrument. Organs can be tricky depending on the instrument. My wife and I are
currently pastoring at 3 different churches, one of hers is an old Anglican
church with an actual pipe organ that university music scholars book time on.
It is beautiful in person, but really hard to record or stream. An electronic
keyboard can be set to sound like an organ and recorded into Garage Band
through an interface. Digital organs with a line out feature can do the same.
Depending on your set up, you can put a mic right in front of a speaker to
record, just make sure it’s not also sending a signal to speakers, that’s where
you get that feedback squeal from.
If you describe your church set up that you’d like to record I may have
suggestions. Heads up, if it’s a magnificent pipe organ that fills the whole
room and makes you feel like you are inside the instrument, that is difficult
to capture.
Look at me sounding like an expert after 2 days of playing with Garage Band. GB
is new, church instruments is old hat, converting to digital for recording and
streaming was a necessarily steep learning curve back in April.

my turn......
as a keyboard player you will want to have a keyboard to enter music into gb.
you may have one at home but it should have a usb port to connect to the
computer.
if you don't have a keyboard understand that many keyboards do not have their
own sounds, rather they trigger sounds from gb, of which there are thousands.
you can also get a keyboard with its' own sounds, sometimes a lot, sometimes
only a few, sometimes very good sometimes not so good, and this often depends
on the amplifying system and the speakers you have.
the keys on keyboards vary a lot, from organ like keys to weighted piano like
keys. this will make a difference to the feel when playing music,
particularly piano.
best and ask questions whenever.

Suzanne,
Take some time to get your head around this. This is a guide I edited some
years ago with some dropins from TF. He is very good at GB. I don’t use
it any more but it is the little brother to Logic.
