Thanks for that wisdom. Now that I’ve got at least one workable solution in
place using Hokusai and/or GarageBand I can breathe a little, let my
supervisors know the project can go ahead without having to take them into the
technical weeds with me, and start working on a better solution before I get
dependent on the sub-optimal one.
I’ve added Reaper evaluation to my big list of everything to do, getting the
evaluation license to play with will be my reward for doing the stuff I don’t
want to first. I’ll get through the documentation on screen reader use, but
everyone knows I’ll be back with a whole bunch of questions.
Cheers,
Ian

Ian,
I would probably do all of this in Reaper. It might take you a day or two to
figure things out, but once you learn it there's nothing you won't be able to
do with it. It's equivalent to Logic but will cost you much less, and you
won't need to use any other software such as Amadeus. Reaper also works great
with video, which may be useful to you in the future.

Exactly what I’m thinking to do. One of those mixes where it just feels
like one person is a little to your left and the other is a little to your
right.

I also use Amadeus pro and logic and like both though amadeus is an audio
editor and logic/garage band is a multi track with an audio editor built
in. You could use either though depending on how you wanted the final mix
to sound I would probably process individual recorded files in amadeus then
bring them into logic to mix.
personally I don't like voice recordings where one voice is hard left and
the other hard right, this is where I would use logic to balance the
volumes and pan them closer to the centre, not hard centre but slightly
separated.

Hello list, I’m wondering what’s the latest best practice for audio
editing. I got ok with Garage Band last year. There was wisdom on the list
to upgrade to Logic, and I know Audacity goes back and forth on
accessibility. I use the Hokusai app on IPhone, it’s cool because they
built in Voiceover accessibility right from the beginning.
Here’s what I’m needing to do:
I’m going to be conducting interviews and conversations for a church
project, I may be moving around differnt spaces while recording, so can’t
just use a fixed mic setup. I can record on separate IPhones using either
the built in mics, or lightning headset mics, I’ve got a couple lapel
mics, but they aren’t very well matched for pick up. Regardless, I’ll end
up with two mono audio tracks that I need to synchronize and mix together.
I know to use a clap or snap as a distinct sound to match up, and I’ve got
a bit of audio from the other person’s side of the conversation on the
recording.
Does anyone have experience doing this type of editing? Any software that
does it automatically?
Thanks for any wisdom,
