Turning off the sounds does speed up VoiceOver, since, unlike on the IPhone, VoiceOver waits until a sound has finished playing before speaking. I really wish that Apple would fix this, or at least make it an option. Would also be good if there was a volume setting for the sounds. Hi folks, Some weeks ago, I went in to Voiceover prefs in to sounds and checked the box that says mute sounds". At first I felt a little lost with out the sounds, but, then I began to really like the new way of listening to Voiceover. The sounds are very nice, but, not having them is a quiet change. Just thought I would run it by you folks. At least for me, a change is nice in the dead of winter.
