I will take you up on that offer if I need to. I actually got in very late last
night, therefore did not attempt to even turn the phone on. Planning to back up
my old iPhone this morning and then get started. I am excited and optimistic
that all will go well.

Not a problem, Zoe. I hope I haven’t gotten anything wrong and thus lead you

Hi Mark, thank you so much for the descriptions. They sound easy and
wonderful to me. I am not a scaredy-cat when it comes to new gestures and
new things. Sometimes I stress out a little bit until I get it but I’m not a
person who gives up. Your descriptions were excellent and I will save this
email for when I get home tonight and open up the new phone and start
setting everything up. Again I am very grateful thank you so much

can either ask here, or I’m sure there are podcasts describing them better
than I can. What’s important to note is that VoiceOver makes a low “tick”
sound when you’re touching regions of the screen where such gestures start,
and also the haptics give feedback when your finger is at the extreme top
or bottom of the screen, where you can start one of the new swipe gestures.
Very briefly, the Home Screen and app switcher gestures start with a touch
of the extreme bottom left or right corners of the screen. Sliding your
finger up until you hear a “pop” sound, and then lifting your finger,
brings up the Home Screen. Continuing the slide, until you hear a slightly
higher-pitch “pop,” sound brings up the app switcher.
The status bar opening gesture starts at the very top edge of the screen,
on either corner. Sliding your finger right or left, depending on where you
start, brings up the status bar—with time, location tracking, and things
like that.
Starting from either corner of the extreme top of the screen, sliding your
finger downward, opposite to what you do to bring up the Home Screen or app
switcher, will, upon hearing the first “pop,” and haptic tick, bring up the
control center. Continuing downward until you hear the second,
higher-pitched “pop,” and haptic, will show you the Notification Center.
I hope this helps, and I’m sorry for the imprecise nature of the
description of these gestures. Just take heart—it’s not as hard as some
people have made it out to be.

home button simulation on the screen that us voiceover people can use or
do I just have to learn a whole bunch new gestures to get to my home
screen for example

the phone has finished booting up. That should turn on VoiceOver. If you
need to provide information to your carrier, like serial number, RMEI
number, etc., this information can be found under Settings, in the “about
