You can turn off the reading of table headings under VO utilities. I think it's under verbosity but I'm not sure.

I've just installed lephard yesterday. I find it more accessible than tiger. However; It takes forever to get through a list of messages. I can interact with the messages table and get it where it either reads the subject or the person's name but when I read the message it goes back to reading all of the extra stuff I really don't need to hear.
