the only service I know of for this is overdrive and since it uses windows 
media drm.  not a chance.

Is there a way for Mac users to borrow books from the library?  In
other words, download a book much the way you would check out a book
from a conventional library, and when the time expires, it
automatically deletes itself from one's hard drive?  Richie
