When I got my new desktop my son reformatted my backup drive and we started a
fresh backup
I also have intermittent difficulty with menu extras, I have to go to a
different application until it opens.

Hello E everyone,
I realize that this is not primarily a voiceover issue, but I hope it’s okay
if I post this problem here.
I am getting an error message that is saying that my backup failed.
The disk had been encrypted but no longer is being encrypted. Fortunately,
all of my data is now on my new machine, and all is well on the machine.
Since I was not sure that I remembered the encryption password, I
decided not to have the disk encrypted once the migration took plac e. I ac
hieved the migration by connecting both computers together, physically, which
worked quite nicely.
However, as I stated before, my disk will no longer backup since it is
no longer encrypted. If I reformat the backup disk, can I start fresh, and
use the disk as a backup once again, but this time, encrypting it with a
well-documented password?
I am running the latest update to Catalina on a 2020 13-inch MacBook
Pro.
On a related issue, I am having trouble accessing “Menu extras”.
Thanks so much, everyone.
Stay happy, healthy and safe!
