Okey dokey, how do I use an app on my computer to measure levels on an analog
mixer? I have the following assets:
Each channel has an insert jack for effects or or other devices. I don’t need a
return signal when I’m checking levels, I’m thinking this might act as a
channel output in this case.
I have 3 different USB audio interfaces lying around, one just has RCA jacks
and no level/gain function, the other two have line in, and mic inputs.
I also have Aux outputs on the mixer, but those are governed by volume knobs,
so would give a true representation of the channel level.
To be clear, I’m looking for levels on the in-house setup, not just within the
digital work station itself. I’m setting up instruments and vocal microphones,
trying to figure out how to level the gains from various inputs as per the
tutorils I’m reading.
Thanks for all the patience and wisdom,
Ian

Reaper is a good app. I used it for a while before I went to Logic Pro.
It will do the job for you.

Thanks, looks like Reaper is lining up as one app to rule them all.
If you have experience hooking an analog mixer into a digital device and
getting level readings I’d really love to hear your setup. I can imagine all
kinds of trial and error stuff happening.

Ferrite can help with this if you connect things to your iPhone, and on
your computer you have several options, including Reaper.
Hope this helps,

This is probably specific to the audio gurus on the list, but all
feedback is welcome.
I’m helping set up sound gear at a church, and keep coming up against the
need for a sound meter I can read, to cover the function of the LED lights
that indicate sound levels on each channel.
Does anyone have a solution for this? I can plug into channel insert jacks
if needed, and have access to a couple of USB interfaces I can plug into
my computer or IPhone using an adapter.
Alternatively, if someone has an existing product they use that has
nothing to do with phone apps or computer interfacesthat would be helpful
too. It could either be something I plug in that reads me the values, or
some way to get an indication of the LED lights flickin on. I’ve used a
light detector app on my phone for the charge indicator light on my Roomba
vacuum, but that’s a big light, and the little LEDs on the sound mixer are
pretty specific.
Thanks much,
Ian
