How true, my very first mac was a macbook pro 2017 with touchbar. I wanted to
have the best and the most fanciest laptop. But I have to say as well that the
touchbar isn't really that great for us - and I guess for many sighted people
either. I found that most time the functions I would have liked to see there
weren't there at all. And it's an unnecessary pain to par example first find
the volume slider and then eventually change the volume. After a few months I
got problems with the new butterfly keyboard and I decided to have my MBP 2017
repaired, apple renew and get an older 2015 instead. It's much more quieter and
I sort of felt that I now could touch this new laptop for real while it was
running.
ON the touch bar model I sometimes was afraid I'd touch the touch bar and
change something I didn't want to. Once or twice I accidentally muted the
speakers. I'm not even sure how I got the speech back. In my need I probably
did a system restore and was so glad I had a braille display available.
Today, like John I don't even bother with the Laptop keyboard anymore. I have
an external USB or bluetooth keyboard with numpad. It's so much more
comfortable to navigate with the numpad than the complex thre or four finger
voice-over comands.
So I'd say you won't miss anything by choosing a laptop without touch bar.
Remember there is the mac mini if you don't need a battery powered mobile
laptop.

I always use an external keyboard -- the touchbar is too much of a
pain in the neck. It can be used, but I don't like the laptop layout
without the numpad anyway, so I just use that external keyboard and be
done with it. Also, if you use the recovery mode there is no way to
turn on vo if you have just the touchbar.

For the past 4 to 5 years, I have used a MacBook Aire. I had no trouble with
the MacBook airline. Iʼm now thinking of purchasing a new laptop. Iʼm curious
to hear some opinions on people who have purchased the MacBook Pro with the
Touch Bar. Do you find that it is more difficult to use with VoiceOver? Do
you regret your decision and wish you had gone for the other models with Al
at Touch Bar?
