I don't think there is a way to do this. I simply just hit command o, or use
launch bar to open the document in pages, or just hit command down arrow on the
.pages bundle.

I am trying to figure out how to get Pages to open in a new document each
time it launches without selecting it in the template chooser. Can’t seem to
get the preferences to allow this. Can’t remember how to make this preference
to stay saved in preferences for Pages. Thanks.************
