I ‘d like to know more about the terminal in recovery mode. I’ve used it but
what all can be done with it?

While we’re on the subject, I had an app that said it wouldn’t leave because it
was opened but I couldn’t find a way to close it. I logged in as root in
terminal and was able to kill it.

lol no worries.

the thing about the login screen some users need to understand, is that if you
have an issue with your system, the login screen has a lot of tools there. of
corse, password hints don't need to be enabled but some users would find it
helpful so I throw that setting in there as an enable by choice option lol.

the guest account should always be available in case of emergencies. as an
example if you need to do an emergency login as a root admin to break a
password that may have been created in error, etc. then of course there's all
that in recovery mode as well if you're in a terminal frame of mind
