No matter how rigorously logical I am in trying to convince myself that the
subject line of that breast enlargement spam message sent me is but a
meaningless, randomly generated group of words ("gigawatt chivalrous
inflammatory handyman drainage"), still I am confronted at every step with
resonances of deep meaning (JL, Henninge, phatic, Richie). Meaning
emerging out of no meaning, and isn't that what humanity is all about? And
now here is Joe Leduc, no friend, I surmise, of "Stop Making Sense" --
except, perhaps, movically or musically, but not philosophically --
complaining about the lack of gigawatt handyman drainage in Iraq which is
destroying by its inflammatory processes (i.e., oxidation) those chivalric
gestures captured by artisans of the ancien regimes (i.e. pre-Americano).
Alas, the damp bank vault, like New Orleans, has been the ruin of many a
young man and work of art too. Joe is right to complain. The technology
exists at this very moment to stop the deterioration of those works of
art/antiquity/young men. I am a practitioner that technology and would go
there right now were it not for the bullets buzzing. Alas, I am a living
coward, not a dead hero.

But perhaps I misread JL (Joe Leduc) as I misread JL (Jorge-Luis) earlier.
Perhaps JL (Joe Leduc) is saying that it's good thing that the handyman past
is being flushed down the drain of history. One less man to pick up after.
A strong argument, but is it enough to break the moldy mould of history? A
question to be answered, but not by me.

Mike Geary
pressing on beyond all tolerance.
