One long-term solution to our current woes would perhaps be an intensified
student exchange programme between the Ivy League and the Taliban. All
Taliban would spend at least a year at an Ivy League College and all Ivy
Leaguers would spend at least a year hanging out with the 'Tali' (or
'Bannies'). Oxford and Cambridge have long run similar programmes for
American students with surprisingly civilising results. Yale, typically,
seems to have a headstart and could perhaps get the ball rolling.
