>>Blaming lawyers is a red herring.

It's easy to agree with almost everything Irene wrote in her last post except this. Blaming lawyers is not a "red herring," i.e., a sudden diversion created by placing a colorful plate of artfully-arranged dried and smoked herring in front of one's interlocutor. No. Blaming lawyers is a tried and true activity, which carries the force and majesty of the great religions. If Gandhi had blamed lawyers more often, he wouldn't today be considered such a schmuck by the vast majority of womankind. Alexander the Great, now that was a lawyer-blamer's lawyer blamer, a real mensch who knew how to dispense with lawyers and legalism by one stroke of his anti-Gordian sword. Gandhi was a filthy person ... [spits] ... and I shall speak of him no more.
