American or oriental persimmons? The little ones that are puckery as hell when green or the big ones that are luscious when they ripen?

Persimmons are more complicated than I knew when I planted the tree. At that point I had two thoughts in mind: the females of the family like eating persimmons and my father goes on about persimmon golf clubs. So I went to the nursery and asked for a persimmon, put the thing in the ground, waited. It turns out that there are eight kinds of astringent persimmon and seven of the other kind.

Ours look well, but no one eats them. Kind of acorn shaped, large, look like ornaments on a Christmas tree? Possibly good for jam? Or wine?
