Sir Peter Smithers, who died yesterday at age 92, once worked for Ian Fleming and was thought to have been in some way a model for James Bond. Two items to note: his autobiography, "Adventures of a Gardener" was published ten years before Le Carre's book, and his wife, who predeceased him by months only, was named Dojean Sayman.

But the most unusual name in today's newspaper was the winning act in last year's World Air Guitar Championships--Fatima Hoang, a 26 year old artist and former ceramics teacher, who goes by the stage name "Rockness Monster." For further reading, refer to Dan Krane (a.k.a. "Bjorn Turoque") "To Air is Human: One Man's Quest to Become the World's Greatest Air Guitarist." I kid you not.
