That was not my experience. I had tried several things before Adaware,
including manually uninstalling Virtual Bouncer and many other malicious
programs from my C drive. At one point in the last week my system exploded
into a nonstop cascade of popups. Every few seconds I was getting a popup
that told me to clean my registry, that I needed their program to open up
such and such file, that I performed an illegal operation and would be shut
down. When I tried to log on, a popup came up telling me I had C++
Runtime and would be shut down. I assumed it was the redirect host program
that was bringing them in that wouldn't allow itself to be deleted. I was
all but ready to scrap this otherwise perfectly functioning workhorse, or
reinstall windows, effectively the same thing minus the expense. I use
McAfee antivirus, so I bought their antispyware and it was utterly useless.
Then I learned about lavasoft.com and, not convinced anything would solve
the problem, I tried their free trial. It came up with 61 critical
objects, 28 of which were in the registry. It then deleted all but the 7
redirect hosts, which I blocked thru the McAfee firewall by entering the IP
address. I bought the program, and it finished the job and they are all
gone now. Apart from a fair amount of annoyance, no real damage was done,
but it's not an experience I want to repeat. Regarding normal, if you mean
about computers, I define it as not having all this crap in my computer.
