Lawrence, Thank you for this series of moving poems. All the best for the new year (that here on the West Coast, hasn't quite arrived yet) to you and your lit-ideas colleagues. May your dogs make shadows before you on the trails you used to walk.
Robert
Running free at the river As they did, when one Was out of sight too long I would yell “Ginger” Or “Sage” as the case might be, “I don’t see you,” and the one Missing would pop out from behind Some bush or tree. “Okay, I see you now,” I’d yell and on we’d go. This morning, Sage Kept looking back Waiting for me to call. She had never before Been here alone. I felt the urge To yell once more. Perhaps I might Compel her to rise If I but yelled. “I don’t see you.”
