Berryman's superiority

Berryman could abandon his

Then find one younger

Than the one before

Delirium Tremens

And the shadow standing

In the dark watching

His disintegration.

But I in my own

Incorrigibility retain

A longing for just this

Particular one though she

Grows older before me

And the shadow watching

Isn't watching me.

He could hide or admit

Himself into detox

But I must clear-eyed see

Her slipping, her brown eyes

That once sent my heart

Racing dull while I

Stand in the dark watching.
