 _The Study of Counterpoint, from Johann Joseph Fux's Gradus and
Parnassum_


Yeah, it's _Gradus ad Parnassum_, step or steps to Parnassus, and
got its name from some kind of teaching lexicon for Greek verbs.

Do you know Debussy's opening for "The Children's Corner," called
"Doctor Gradus ad  Parnassum"? It's in B-flat I think,  a satire of
Gradus. The counterpoint in it leads nowhere in particular.
