May I recommend to you the following profile of Alexander McCall Smith? I
particularly enjoyed the news that he plays bassoon in "The Really Terrible
Orchestra," and the fact that his next series will feature Prof. Dr.
Moritz-Maria von Igelfeld, author of "Portuguese Irregular Verbs." Perhaps
she will be revealed as knowing something about the Portuguese explorer Gil
Eannes, a fellow my daughter's history teacher says was vital to the
Renaissance. Colleagues on history faculties seem to be generally ignorant
of his achievements.
